Overview

Making personalized learning engaging, accessible, and AI-powered

Schoolifi is an AI-powered mobile learning platform designed for K–12 students, providing a personalized and interactive learning experience aligned with the NEP 2020 curriculum. The app combines digital textbooks, AI-powered learning recommendations, assessments, STEM content, and AR-based experiences into a single platform, helping students learn at their own pace while giving teachers and parents visibility into academic progress.

As the lead Product Designer, I designed the end-to-end mobile experience, creating intuitive learning journeys that balance engagement, accessibility, and intelligent personalization.

Problem

Learning wasn't personalized enough

Most students followed a fixed learning path regardless of their strengths or weaknesses. Finding relevant study material, understanding difficult concepts, and tracking academic progress often required significant support from teachers and parents.

Students also lacked immediate feedback after assessments, making it difficult to understand where they needed improvement or what they should study next. Existing experiences focused on content delivery rather than guiding students through a personalized learning journey.

The opportunity was to transform the app into an intelligent learning companion that could recommend the right content, identify learning gaps, and support every student with a personalized learning experience.

Research

Understanding how students learn beyond the classroom

Through interviews with students, teachers, and parents, along with classroom observations and usability testing, I explored how learners interacted with educational content, prepared for assessments, and stayed engaged throughout their learning journey.

The research highlighted recurring challenges:

  • Students struggled to stay motivated with static learning content.

  • Finding the right learning resources required multiple steps.

  • Performance insights were difficult for students to understand.

  • Learning gaps often remained unnoticed until examinations.

  • Students preferred visual, interactive, and bite-sized learning experiences.

  • Teachers wanted AI-assisted recommendations without losing control over learning outcomes.

These insights directly influenced the structure of the mobile experience and the integration of AI throughout the learning journey.

Ideation

Designing the learning journey before visual design

Before moving into high-fidelity designs, I created low-fidelity wireframes to validate navigation, information hierarchy, and core learning workflows. Early prototypes focused on course discovery, AI recommendations, digital textbooks, assessments, progress tracking, and remedial learning.

Testing these concepts early helped refine interactions, reduce cognitive load, and ensure AI-powered recommendations felt contextual rather than intrusive.


Solution

Designing an AI-powered learning companion

Rather than designing isolated screens, I focused on creating a connected learning ecosystem that supports students throughout their academic journey.

The experience combined structured learning with AI-powered guidance, enabling students to move seamlessly between lessons, assessments, personalized recommendations, and performance insights.

The goal was to reduce learning friction while making education more engaging, adaptive, and outcome-driven.

Lessons

Designing for personalized learning and continuous engagement

The final mobile experience focused on making learning simple, motivating, and adaptive for every student.

By improving information hierarchy, simplifying navigation, and embedding AI-powered recommendations throughout the experience, students could easily discover learning resources, complete assessments, monitor their progress, and receive personalized remedial support based on their performance.

AI capabilities—including Curriculum Planner, Assessment Generator, Learning Recommendations, and Personalized Remedials—were integrated naturally into the learning journey, helping students focus on the right concepts at the right time while enabling teachers to support learning with data-driven insights.
